About

The Transport Futures Institute (TFI) provides specialist training for transport professionals to be successful into the future. The principal faculty of the Transport Futures Institute are Phil Charles and Luis Ferreira who are distinguished practitioners, skilled educators, and researchers, with wide ranging experience in government, consulting and academia.

Since 2003 Profs Charles and Ferreira have been involved in developing and delivering over twenty short courses, involving more than 600 participants. Over 85% have rated the courses as good or excellent.

The education courses run by the Transport Futures Institute are developed and delivered by our principal faculty, with the assistance of key experts and practitioners from government, academia and industry.

Faculty

Professor Phil Charles has developed and implemented transport strategy and policy initiatives across Australia and is an experienced educator and trainer.  He has expertise and experience in transport strategy development and implementation, intelligent transport systems, road safety, traffic and incident management, mass transit, strategic analysis and futures scanning, institutional strengthening, professional capability development and market assessment for transport technologies.  He has worked in technical and senior management roles covering transport strategy, planning and operations; research, education and consulting. Prof Charles is a professor of transport at the University of Queensland located in Brisbane and a Director of Transport Roundtable Australasia, which runs Smart Urban Transport and Smart Traffic conferences. He has graduate and postgraduate qualifications in civil engineering (transport), business, public administration and education.

Professor Luis Ferreira has a strong multi-modal teaching, research and management background encompassing road and rail, freight and passenger transport. He has worked in technical and managerial roles covering transport planning, research, management and consultancy. Luis has been closely involved with the transport and traffic planning and management as a practitioner, researcher and trainer. Prof Ferreira is currently Professor in transport at The University of Queensland located in Brisbane. He has graduate and postgraduate qualifications in civil engineering (transport) and education.
